What is Citywall?

Citywall is a not-for-profit organisation serving communities in Salford and across Greater Manchester.

We exist to support young people and families to enable them to thrive in education, at home, and in the community. Citywall delivers pastoral and academic interventions to engage, support and develop young people and families; always promoting their well-being, mental wellness, education, and safety. We support those we work with in making positive life choices and gaining new skills to invest in education, family and future employment.

We are here to meet specific needs via our flexible, tailored package of mentoring, project-based learning, tutoring or family intervention work. We believe that healthy families are the foundation of resilient communities so we aim to support young people and families in making positive life choices. Our work is based on relationships with young people and families, and effective collaboration with schools and partner services.

Why does Citywall exist?

  • To give young people the best possible opportunities in life.

  • To equip young people to make positive life choices and build healthy habits and routines.

  • To enable every young person to be able to access education suitable for them.

  • To invest in family life, equipping and encouraging parents and carers to secure the well-being of their families and enable young people to thrive.

  • To equip families to engage with services and professionals with confidence and positive expectations.

  • To address barriers to well-being and negative cycles in young people and families, working towards a hopeful, brighter and more resilient future.

Our Story

Citywall was founded in 2014 with a vision to support young people and families, and build healthier communities. We had witnessed too many young people falling through the gaps in the education and social care systems, so Citywall was set up to bridge those gaps, and provide specialist support for young people not engaged in education, whatever the reason.

We began by offering 1:1 pastoral mentoring and coaching for young people, alongside family support and mediation. All our work was bespoke to each young person, focused on building positive relationships and meeting their individual needs.

Over the years, Citywall’s services have evolved and expanded, but we have stayed true to the same foundations. All our projects continue to be 1:1 or very small group settings; we remain focused on building positive relationships to create safe and comfortable environments for our young people where they can thrive; and our support is bespoke, tailored to the needs of each young person and focused on what they want to achieve.

While our emphasis on pastoral mentoring interventions remains strong, we have also developed our academic offer over the last few years, and in 2021 Citywall became a registered NCFE centre, offering Functional Skills qualifications.

We believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to receive high quality education and support, to be equipped to thrive in their communities, and to have opportunities to contribute.

Our team has grown over time and we have established projects running across Greater Manchester. You can find out more about each individual project on our Project pages.
