Alternative Provision
Our alternative provision projects provide bespoke, 1:1 education packages for young people aged 5 to 25, and are structured as:
Young People in Custody
No matter the age of the young person or the setting in which provision is taking place, the projects are primarily for those with significant barriers to learning or wellbeing. The 1:1 nature of the provision enables positive, trusted relationships to be established between the young person and their mentor, which then provides the foundation for barriers to be addressed.
Each provision package is uniquely tailored to the young person, taking a strengths-based, solution-focused approach. At its broadest level, provision aims to:
increase resilience and wellbeing
empower the young person to achieve their goals
prepare for further learning and/or employment in the future
For school age young people, the aim is to support reintegration to school. For those in exam years, it should lead towards routes of accreditation.
The specific curriculum for each young person is carefully planned and shaped according to a range of factors, including: the young person’s goals, EHCP targets (where relevant), national curriculum targets, and the desired outcomes of referrers and families. Provision packages typically consist of a combination of personal development and academic work.
Packages range from 2 to 16 hours per week, and take place at a location most suitable for the young person to remove barriers to learning and progress. For our School Age and Post 16 alternative provisions, this may be in our learning centres, in the community or in the family home.
